The PPN Timeline
The Ministry of Health is retiring the PPN. These are the dates that matter for your clinic.
PHSA sent notification emails to clinics on the PPN and asked them to acknowledge the change.
Business internet orders can take weeks to install. The safe window to start is short. Begin the move now.
The PPN service ends. Any clinic still on it can lose internet, EMR access, and clinical systems.
What the PPN Shutdown Means for Your Clinic
The PPN began in 2007. At that time, secure clinic internet was hard to find. Today, business internet is widely available. So the Ministry of Health is retiring the PPN. Your clinic can no longer stay on it. You must set up your own internet and your own security. You are also now responsible for the cost of both. This sounds stressful. It does not have to be. With a clear plan and an early start, the move is routine.
What Goes Away With the PPN
The PPN provided more than internet. Each of the items below needs a replacement plan.
Internet connectivity
Your clinic needs a new business-grade internet provider. You choose the provider. We help you pick one that fits.
Secure private network
The private network and its managed infrastructure end. Your own firewall and secure setup take over.
Security monitoring
PPN security monitoring stops. Your clinic needs its own firewall, threat protection, and monitoring.
Site-to-site links
Links between clinic sites end. That affects shared drives, remote desktop, and printing across locations.
CareConnect PPN pathway
The PPN route to the health authority version of CareConnect ends. There are other supported ways to reach it.
Fraser Health UCI pathway
UCI access over the PPN ends. Fraser Health offers remote access options, and CareConnect covers similar data.
What Every Clinic Must Do Before September 4
PHSA has set out the basic steps. We handle these for you, or beside your team.
1. Review your current setup
List what uses the internet. That includes your EMR, phones, printers, Wi-Fi, payment devices, remote access, and any site-to-site workflows.
2. Select new providers
Arrange a business internet provider and a firewall or security service. Add backup and a second connection if uptime matters.
3. Transition before the deadline
Install, configure, and test the new setup. Keep the PPN live until every system is confirmed on the new connection.
4. Notify PHSA
Once your clinic is moved and stable, let PHSA know at PPNUpdates@phsa.ca so the old PPN equipment can be collected.
How NYRO Dynamics Runs Your PPN Transition
We manage the full move end to end. You keep running the clinic. We handle the technical work and the vendor coordination.
Discovery and assessment
We review your clinic setup. We map internet dependencies, devices, EMR integrations, site-to-site workflows, and security needs. We check if you need a static IP for your EMR or firewall.
Design and provider selection
We help you choose a business internet provider. We select the right firewall and security. We plan backup and a second connection where uptime is critical. We confirm any EMR vendor steps in advance.
Build and secure
We install and configure the firewall and network. We rebuild your firewall rules on the new connection. We set up secure Wi-Fi, separate guest and clinical traffic, and turn on multifactor sign in and device protection.
Test and cut over
We keep the PPN live during testing. We confirm your EMR, CareConnect, email, printing, payment devices, and remote access all work. Only when everything passes do we switch fully to the new connection.
Handoff and ongoing care
We document the new setup and hand you the records. We can notify PHSA on your behalf. We can then manage your clinic IT and security going forward, so you are never on your own again.
We scope the work first and give you a fixed-scope quote. There are no billable hour surprises.
Do You Have Links Between Clinic Locations?
Some clinics use site-to-site connections. These links let sites share drives, use remote desktop, and print to each other. The PPN provided that link. It ends on September 4, 2026. We design a secure replacement so those workflows keep working. First we list which shared workflows you actually need. Then we build a modern, encrypted link between your sites. We test each workflow before we rely on it.
Keeping EMR, CareConnect, and UCI Working
These systems stay available after the PPN ends. The access path changes, and we help you confirm yours.
Your EMR
EMR systems work over normal business internet. We coordinate with your EMR vendor so the switch is smooth. We test EMR access before cutover.
CareConnect
CareConnect stays available over the internet with your BC Services Card. Health authority credentialed physicians may also use their authority's remote access. We help confirm your route.
Fraser Health UCI
UCI over the PPN ends. Fraser Health offers remote access, and CareConnect covers much of the same clinical data. We help you set the right option.

PPN Transition Questions
When is the PPN being shut down?
The PPN is being decommissioned on September 4, 2026. Your clinic must move to its own internet and security before that date.
Will my clinic lose access to its EMR?
No, as long as you transition on time. EMR systems run over business internet. We confirm the setup with your EMR vendor as part of the move.
Can we still use CareConnect?
Yes. CareConnect stays available over the internet with your BC Services Card. Health authority physicians may also use that authority's remote access. We help confirm your path.
What about links between our sites?
Site-to-site links end with the PPN. That affects shared drives, remote desktop, and printing between sites. We build a secure replacement.
How long does the move take?
It depends on internet provider lead times and your setup. Orders can take weeks. Start now so the new connection is live and tested before the deadline.
Do you keep the PPN running during the switch?
Yes. We keep the PPN live until the new setup is installed and every system is verified. Only then do we cut over. This avoids downtime.
